an early Christmas dinner

We are having our Christmas dinner today, Wednesday, as we will be away on Christmas day.  Our son, Mark, is coming and we are doing something different instead of turkey.  We have having steak on the barbeque.  There will be potatoes, peas and a tossed salad to go with the steak.  A simple meal, but a hearty one on this cold and damp day. I am glad my son is tending the barbecue.

Today is the shortest day of the year then it's all up hill from here.  That, my friends, is a good thing, even though we won't really notice the change of longer daylight for a few weeks.

I'm using my Christmas plaid china on red chargers.  Do you see the beautiful table runner?
My dear friend, Lois, made this for me for Christmas.  I was so thrilled to get it.
Yes, I opened my gift early.  :-)

A simple centerpiece of a silver tray, a berry wreath, pinecones and a mercury glass candle stick.

I kept the setting a bit masculine since it's just me, my hubby and my son.

Looking toward the living room.
The small mercury glass holders were given to me by two different friends!
They know my taste.

The amaryllis has 2 huge blooms now and another bud coming too.

I hope you enjoyed our Christmas dinner table.  It's not very fancy but
the company and the food are what's important.

  1. Pamela I enjoyed your closeup views and a peek into your dining room this evening. Your table is so lovely and the meal sounded delicious. I also am making our christmas dinner much simpler this year so I can focus more on the important things!

I've been so busy I totally forgot this is the shortest day of the year. I guess winter is here though you'd never know it here right now.

    Have a wonderful Christmas!

  2. It's delightful! Your table setting and the new table runner and all the things that you pulled together to create a bit more masculine feel. I'm sure that, whether the men even noticed, they felt comfortable with it. So you're off soon for Alberta. I'm glad that it's a "go." (Our snow soon turned to freezing rain. What a mess.)

  14. Hello, Pam, and Merry Christmas! I don't know how chilly it is in your part of Canada right now, but if it's anything like it is here in Kansas City, MO, USA, hats off to your son!!! Steak sounds really wonderful, but I don't know that I could brave this kind of cold to tend it! He has great constitution...and he's apparently a very good son as well. Your traditional table is very nice, and I love the chargers with that cool rim. Plaid plates are always a great choice, especially when men will be seated to dine! Best of all is the beautiful handmade runner from your friend. The fabric is so pretty with the mix of ranunculous and poinsettias. (At least I THINK that's ranunculous...could be roses?) It's very colorful and lends a great deal to the overall look of the table. What a sweet friend! I wish you safe travel for Christmas. Enjoy!

  16. Pamela, your table is beautiful and festive! What a gorgeous runner! I love the fabric! I have looked at those little mercury glass candle holders twice in a store, and put them back. I just think they are so sweet, and I love mercury glass! Your steak sounds so yummy, and it's sure not as cold as it could be for BBQing. We are suppose to get a couple inches of snow tomorrow, so we may have a white Christmas after all!! Blessings to you!

  17. Pamela
    Your Christmas table is beautiful.
A BBQ sounds perfect to me.
Especially when you don't have to be the one
    doing the grilling!
