barn charm

It's Barn Charm Tuesday at Tricia's "Bluff Area Daily".

I took this photo on the way to church one Sunday at sunset
in January.

It was a drive-by shot and the brush in the ditch was blurred
so I cropped the picture.

Same barn ~  Sunday morning ~ January 2011

And again on a summer morning ~ July 2011

And yes, this is the same farm.  You can barely
see the roof for the corn.  ~ October 2011

Have a great day!

winter wonderland.....again

Friday morning.  The calm before the storm.

Friday was a beautiful day - sunny, blue skies and mild.
The driveway was 'almost' bare with some icy patches.

Saturday morning

This is what we awoke to this morning.

Beautiful fresh snow and the sun trying to break through.
It's windy now and the snow is blowing off the trees.

The picnic table loaded like frosting on a cake.

This is how much we got.
On the left it's in inches.  On the right it's in cm.

One thing about snow this time of year is that it doesn't
last as long due to the warmer days and the bright sun.

We may will get more of these storms too, even in April.

Ontario and the Prairies got a lot of snow yesterday too.

Did you?

I hope you have a beautiful Saturday.

I decided to build a snowman this afternoon so I
could send a picture of it to our grandson.
It's actually a snowboy because the snow wasn't
packy enough to make a bigger one.

He looks like he fell into the spirea bush!

Vee at A Haven For Vee also built a snowperson
and she has some beautiful photos of today's snowfall
on her post.  I hope you'll go over and visit her and see
her cute snowperson.

Enjoy the snow!

Under Construction

You may have noticed a few changes around here today.

I am trying out new colours for my blog background but,
I'm not sure if I like it yet.  I think it may be too bright.

I like the many blogs that have a white background but they
are usually done more professionaly than mine is.

I'd like to know what you think of the colours.   Is the
background too bright and hard to read?   Please don't
be shy.  I value your opinions.

Now you can scroll down and view my other post
of the day below before you leave.

                                           Thank you!!!

I am joining several blog parties this weekend:

Thank you so much to the great hostesses of these
blog parties.  I hope you'll follow me over
the next four days.

Have a wonderful weekend my friends!

I'm a proud Canadian blogger

Hydrangea bush ~ February 2011

We had a lot more snow last winter than we do now ~

so far.

Valentine's Day sleigh ride 2011

Sleigh ride weather.

Did you notice something new on my side bar?

Right near the top.

The Proud Canadian Blogger emblem.

You can have this emblem on your blog too,
especially if you are a Canadian blogger.

(click on the link)
and Lori, who is another proud Canadian blogger,
will help you out.   It didn't take long.
Thanks so much Lori!

It was a mild day here although cloudy.

I saw a flock of robins today.  There have
been sightings around our area the past couple weeks
and on PEI.  I don't know if they stayed the
winter or are returning early but I'm happy to see them.

I hope you're having a great week.

Have you spotted any robins yet?

Finally, the last of the heart cookies :)

I'm going to try to stop baking cookies for a few weeks.
I eat way too many of them and it's just too
much sugar.   (I'll let you know if I fail this test)

Joining Sandi at Rose Chintz Cottage for:

Have a sweet free day!

it's Monday ~ SMILE

Good Beautiful Monday Morning to You!!

I thought I'd start this week off with a great big S M I L E!!

Yesterday, I broke 4 eggs into a bowl for scrambled eggs and when
I looked at the bowl I saw this big face looking back at me.

Pretty cute isn't it?

In my post yesterday I had a photo of two plates on a
plate stand I'd bought.
I thought I'd show you what the plate stand looks like.
This is the smaller of the two sizes the stand comes in.

here it is with 3 plates

In another train of thought, one of my followers is having
trouble posting comments on my blog and I am
wondering if anyone else is having a problem.
If you are can you please let me know at my email
address?  Also, explain, if possible, what the issue might
be and how I might correct it.
Thanks so much.

I noticed a lot of you are annoyed fed up with the new
Word Verification on blogger.
I haven't had it in a while and I see a lot of
you are changing and removing it as well.
It does make it easier to visit you without having
to try to read what the 2 words are and type them
in, sometimes, more than once.
If you are still using Work Verification maybe
you'd consider removing it.

I wish you all a great week and don't forget to ~

This is the day the Lord has made,
let us rejoice and be glad in it.

wishful thinking

something new

I found this cushion at Winners the other day
and thought I'd try it out.
I love the French address and the bit of red
matches the red stripe in the chair.

I also found a nice plate holder that can hold up to
three or 4 plates.  I only have 2 in greens right now.
The tin box also has French postal writing on it.
Of course, I love roses and all flowering things.

The tray on my coffee table has some 'new' things to
change it up for a late winter/early spring look.
(with faux tulips ~ the real ones died)

Even though spring is a long way off and there is still
lots of snow on the ground I've put away all things
snow related.  The snowflake placemats and dishes
will be kept in the cupboard and the votive holders
and wreath with snowflakes on them are put away.

I'm ready for spring!

~ Wishful thinking. ~

The snow will be here for at least 6 more weeks.

But, I'm thinking spring in my mind and am ready for
it ~ at least in the house.

How about you?
Especially my Canadian friends.

Have you started some spring decorating?
Have you put the snowmen and such back in the closet
or do you wait until the official first day of spring?

That reminds me.  I need to take down my Christmas wreaths!

Have a great day everyone!

flying high

While in the yard yesterday I could hear the drone of
the motors on these paragliders.
I kept looking to see where they were and spied them
floating above our neighbour's house.

There were 3 of them altogether but by the time I dashed
into the house to grab my camera the first one had passed.
Just imagine the view from up there.
And the cold.
It was about 3 degrees celsius and cloudy.

I've captured these guys before as they fly all year around.
Did you notice the skiis attached to the yellow one?

Away they go.

I don't know where they take off and land
but they are fascinating to watch as they float
above the hills and valleys around us.

I've mentioned before that I have a fear of heights
so flying in one of these would be terrifying to me.

How about you?

Are you brave enough to try it?

We are getting some light snow today and it's quite mild.
The weekend weather is looking nice with some sun
and freezing mark temperatures.  I can almost feel
the snow melting. :)

I hope you have a great weekend!

looking through a different lens

We have a vintage camera here.

One of the old Kodak pop out ones.

The above photo is what that camera lens sees.
{the lens sure is dirty}

I remember we had one of these at home only I think
it was brown.  I have a lot of photos that were
taken with it ~ all in black and white.

I believe K----K is going out of business
and it's almost impossible to buy film today.

I'm kind of thankful for digital cameras aren't you?
Do you remember rolling the film after each shot
and trying to squeeze one or two more photos at the end?

Then drop in films were invented in a cartrige for the
instamatic type of camera in the 1960's.  So simple.
I had a Brownie camera as a girl then graduated to an
instamatic then 35 mm film cameras.
One had to really choose their subject carefully so
as not to waste film.

I love digital!
So simple.

What was your first camera?

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.
Welcome to my new followers.

It's the middle of the week and the middle of the month.
And it's still very much winter here.

Valentine greetings

a little vignette for Valentine's Day

Do you save the Valentine's cards from your sweetheart
and your children?

I do.

from my sweetheart

I found most of the cards from my hubby.
They were mingled in with the cards he's given me
over the years for birthdays and anniversaries so
I may have missed a few.
(he may have missed a few too!)

Our children have made and given cards over the years too.

home made cards from the children

Parlez-vous francais?

the children practised their French

This next card was given to us by my late
It is a vintage card she had on hand.

I love the pretty design, possibly from the 60's.

We'll be celebrating quietly tomorrow but I am going out for
a special Valentine lunch with my dear 'chickies'
from our Bible study group.

I believe in telling my dear ones that I love them
every chance I can get.  I don't reserve it for
one day a year.  Every day is a special gift from God
and I believe we need to share His love with our
loved ones and everyone we meet.

I wish you, my dear friends, a Happy Valentine's Day.

Blessings and hugs,

linen and lace

These are all linens I have and use around the house.

I love the pretty lace edging and embroidery on each one.

I use these linens for bedside tables, and other tables
in the house.  I even use 2 of them on top of the washer
and dryer just to dress them up.

My mother collected all these pieces over the years
and I just couldn't toss them out.
Some are getting tiny wear holes in them
but I'll keep using them.

I washed and ironed these on Saturday as they needed
freshening up.  And, they were dusty!
{they sure were!!}
I placed them in those mesh bags for laundering
delicates then put them in with the white load.
They look less dusty much cleaner now.

I am joining Mary for Mosaic Monday.

I hope you had a great weekend and that
you'll have a wonderful week.

have you ever been in a photo booth?

Are you old enough to remember a photo booth at your local
Woolworth, Zellers, or 5 and dime store?

Do you remember pulling the curtain open, stepping inside and sitting on the adjustable stool then closing the curtain?  Put your
quarter in the slot and smile.  Then step outside and wait for the
photos to develop and slip out another slot.  How fun that was!
And we took some pretty silly photos too.  Didn't you?

I think it cost 25 cents for a strip of 4 black and white photos back when I was a kid.

peek a boo

I believe my oldest sister had these made and I'm guessing I was about 3 or 4 and my brother, Johnnie was a year younger.
I think she forgot to wind the stool up. :)

I am about 7 or 8 years old in the above photos.
I remember the coat.  It was pale blue wool
and double breasted with white pearl buttons.
Much like The Princess Anne would have worn.

This is the last time I remember being in a photo booth.
It was at Woolworth's in 1965.
That's my best girlfriend, Linda, on the left.

We met in grade 9 at the age of 14 when she moved
from the country into the city just a block down the
street from me.  We were in the same homeroom
class in grade 9 and are still friends to this day.
She lives in Ontario now and we haven't
seen each other for a few years but we stay in touch
by mail and phone.
Friends for 48 years!  WOW!

Linda and I were stylin' teenagers weren't we?

Those were the days my friend.
We thought they'd never end.
We'd sing and dance for ever and a day.

I wonder if there are photo booths out there now?
Does anyone know?
You'd think with today's technology they'd be pretty slick
and it would probably cost about $5.00 for a strip of 4 photos!

Just a little visit down memory lane.

Have a wonderful weekend my friends.

I've unlocked the mystery

I've unlocked the mystery of all this blogger business.

I think!

I would like to thank you, my dear readers, for your helpful
comments yesterday regarding the dilema I 'thought' I was in.

I panicked when I thought I'd be losing all my followers.

I didn't read the information out there carefully and
as a result jumped to conclusions.

I even scared some of you!
(I'm so sorry)

So, I guess we on Blogger don't have to move everything
over to another provider like Linky.
Only those who are not using Blogger have to.
However, it's my understanding that if we want to continue
following those certain favorite blogs we have to join
the Linky Followers on their blog so they can stay in
touch and I'm assuming we need to have the Linky Followers
on our sidebar so others will know.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I did finally manage to get the Linky Followers up and
running and on my sidebar.
Talk about frustrating!
There is so much I still don't know or understand but,
everything is okay for now.

I hope there aren't anymore changes coming don't you?

Take care my friends.

Blessings to you!
