mirror reflections down by the marina

I had to get out of the house yesterday.

I can't spend all my time on the computer can I?  {yes}

We had rain showers and a cold wind Tuesday.

Wednesday it was a Scotch mist and a wee bit warmer.

I went down to the Mactaquac Marina to look for some geese.

All I found was 'evidence' they were there.

I had to tip toe around the goose poop!

It was so gross!!!

When I wasn't tiptoeing and watching every step I took

I saw some beautiful scenery and snapped some pics.

You would have the beach to yourself today.

Maybe you'd like to rent a houseboat.

This marina was man made after the Mactaquac Dam was built.

As was the Mactaquac Provincial Park and Kings Landing

Historical Settlement.

The St. John River valley was flooded from the dam up and

created a beautiful recreational area.

This is taken from the small causeway on the other side of the marina.

This millstone marker is for the small community that was

once on this spot.  It was called Jewett's Mills.

The Mactaquac stream flowed where the 'lake' in the above

photo is and the village was along the stream.

Part of the grist mill is now at Kings Landing.

These are my husband's relatives going a way back.

I took this photo below 2 weeks ago.

Can you see the little goslings in the grass?

When I drove by here this past Monday there were several

families of geese and the goslings were do much bigger.

I hope they come back so I can take their new pictures.

This next photo was on the same day as the above one.

Some geese had just taken flight.

It's another dreary day here today and the long range

forecast is depressing with rain almost every day except

tomorrow. 

I don't know what I'll do today to pass the time.

I certainly can't spend all day on the computer again can I!

It's drizzly and cold this morning but warming up to

 a sunny 22 ° C ( 70°F).

a rainy Tuesday tea break

It's Tuesday and it's raining and it's cold.

It's not even a warm rain at 10 degrees celsius!!

I got up at 6:45 and decided it was a good day to make

a batch of chocolate chip cookies.  :)

I didn't eat these.  Props only.  :)

I chose a Royal Albert mug with the purple violet on it

for my Earl Grey Vanilla tea.

The purple violet is the provincial flower of New Brunswick

and there are lots of them in bloom right now ~ in the rain.

Therefore I didn't pick any.

I won't complain about today's weather as we have been

blessed with beautiful hot and sunny days for about 2 weeks.

This too shall pass.

I have been to the greenhouse and purchased my annuals.

They are all potted up and now in the garage out of the cold

and damp.  I will post pictures of them soon.

The gardens are growing like weeds along with the dandelions

but I don't have anything in bloom yet.  I guess most of my

plants are summer bloomers.

After all my hard work in the yard and garden, today I will

relax indoors, drink tea, read and enjoy a cookie or two.

a blockhouse, a falls and a sunset

                    This is continued from my last post on St. Andrews.

the St. Andrew's Blockhouse

This Blockhouse was built from Jan. 1, 1812 to 1813 by the

people of St. Andrews as a defensive structure against

American raiders during the War of 1812.

In 1993 it was destroyed by fire and restored.

It is a National Historic Site.

This is the beach in front of the blockhouse as the tide is going out.

One of my favorite cottages/homes on the water next door to the Blockhouse.

 Below are the sandstone rocks on the beach in front of

the Blockhouse.  They are under water when the tide is in.

Our kids loved playing and climbing on them and collecting

seashells on the beach when they were little.

On our way home we stopped at York Mills.

This is a small community with a millpond formed from a small dam all part of the Magagidavic River system.

{it is pronounced "Makadavik"}  :)

The embankment was straight down and the black flies were so bad I couldn't get

a very good photo of the falls under the bridge.

There is a woolen mill at this site that has been there for decades.

It used to be an old white wood building but that was replaced

with a new modern cement one.  {therefore not as picturesque!}

Briggs and Little Woolen Mill is well known for their yarn.

On up the highway we arrived at a new sub-division along

the St. John River. 

I had no idea this beautiful spot was there with streets and

beautiful homes all with gorgeous views of the river.

We were there about sunset time so I got a few photos

of the setting sun on this beautiful day.

Wouldn't you love to own this piece of property?  It is for sale along with about 20 other acre + lots.

Well, that is the end of our little roadtrip to St. Andrews.

I'm glad you came along with me.

It is one of our favorite places to visit in New Brunswick.

have you ever been to St. Andrews by the Sea?

It is a tradition for us to go to St. Andrew's by the Sea on the Victoria Day weekend.  We try to make a trip down there a few times in the summer or fall.

St. Andrew's by the Sea is a quaint tourist town on the

Passamaquoddy Bay which is connected to the

Bay of Fundy.

One of the many beautiful historic old homes. 

The large building with the red roof is the world famous Algonquin Hotel.

We spent part of our honeymoon there - back when it was cheap less expensive - 35 years ago!

There are beautiful old homes, churches and shops along

the tree lined streets.

Water Street with it's old buildings housing restaurants and shops.

There are some wonderful bed and breakfast places in sweet older homes

and cottages.

We always walk out the wharf and look at what boats may be docked.  Sometimes there are whale watching tour boats

loading or unloading, depending on the tide.

The tide was just going out when we were there.

We took a walk along Water Street and saw quite a few

familiar faces from home and visited on the busy sidewalks.

Then we stopped for an ice cream and we walked around the streets and enjoyed the beautiful day.

There were a lot of people around and many, including a group

of about 40 motorcyclists, travelled from Moncton, Saint John and

Fredericton for the day.

We drove to the point where I walked on the beach

as the tide was going out.

This is not a sandy beach.  It is mostly rocky with areas of red sandstone and rough red sand.

And the water is very cold, even in summer.

That is Maine, USA in the background.

A favorite shop for all things related to birds, dogs, gardens and original

artwork by Steven Smith.  And the building has so much character!

I'm going to do another post on another day.

apple blossom time

It was peak apple blossom time here last weekend.

What a glorious sight!

The apple trees were a mass of white blooms.

Even the yellow dandelions beneath looked beautiful

in the bright green grass.

This is the orchard where I pick apples in the fall.

It's the farm where my hubby grew up.

{on a dairy farm before the trees were planted}

I can't get over the beauty of these pretty blooms ~ the soft pink and creamy white.

It looks like there will be a great apple crop this year.
