you never know what you'll find in the orchard

My friend Linda, who blogs at "Stitch Lines", came out Wednesday morning so we could go to the local apple orchard to take pictures of the trees in blossom.  We were directed to go to the orchard at the bottom of the hill next to the woods.

We not only found apple trees in blossom but, we found lots of wild flowers in bloom in the woods.

Strawberry, Red Trillium,  Dog Violets, Yellow Violets,
Jack-in-the-pulpit, Purple Violet, Red Baneberry, Purple Violets.

I think we had as much fun exploring for wildflowers as we did taking photos of the apple blossoms.  I hadn't seen a Jack-in-the-pulpit plant in years so I was thrilled to see several of them.  The Trilliums were just about finished but we could see that there were lots before the blossoms died.  There were 2 varieties of violets and I'd never seen yellow ones before.

The woodland was so beautiful with the sun shining through the green treetops.  The ferns and other plants are growing on the forest floor that is just the right climate for them.

*******

And then there were the apple blossoms.

There were bees and a hummingbird flitting about and lots of tiny black flies that like to nibble and bite me.  The sun was warm and a gentle breeze blew through the trees.  The gentle perfume of the apple blossoms was sweet.  Perfectly beautiful.
That was a fun adventure Linda!

I hope my readers will go over and visit Linda's blog ~ Stitch Lines.  Linda is a beautiful quilter so if you are interested in quilting you will love her blog where she shares many of her beautiful creations.  She is also an excellent photographer which you will see in her nature photos.

It is raining here tonight but the next few days will be mostly sunny and, hot and humid.  What a change from the past 2 weeks!  But I won't complain.  I like to be warm.  :-)

I hope you are having a great week.

Blessings,

Pamela

  3. Nice finds, Pam! I haven't been on a wildflower search for years. I'd love to find Mayflowers, but I think that they come out early in the spring. Did the orchard smell lovely? I think it must have smelled heavenly. Too bad that there are so many hungry bugs just now.

The blossoms and flowers are so pretty.
And what a thrill to see the forest come back to life again!
I think we are getting your rain now. But if warm follow the
    rain, I won't complain.
I'll pop over to meet your friend. I'm not much of a quilter,
but I love to admire the work of those who are.

  10. Oh dear, Pamela...there is so much to comment about! You are an excellent phographer. I wish you would consider a small book of some sort. These pics today are fabulous. I was amazed that I knew quite a few(not all) of the flowers such as trillium, violet, jack in the pulpit and it was fun to name them. (Of course, I love the violets because my Grandmother's name was Violet.) The apple blossoms are so bright, cheerful, sweet and I could almost smell them. I love the half open buds. Well, I have gone on long enough. I love this post. I hope you go back to the apple orchard again someday.

  31. What a splendid walk in the woods - reminds me of mine, but two weeks later. All our trilliums and apple blossoms are but memories now. Love that jack-in-the-pulpit - I have one growing right outside our back door in a nice shady spot (I 'borrowed' it from a place in the woods where we lived 10 years ago and it's thriving).

Wonderful collage of all the wildflowers.

    Enjoy your weekend.
