fall blooms and thankfulness

Believe it or not, my flowers are still blooming.  I took these photos over a week ago but the flowers still look the same as we've had such gorgeous weather.

I had a fantastic weekend away with my dear Bible school girlfriends.  We shared stories and photos, laughter and food until well after midnight on Friday night.  On Saturday we toured the new campus of Crandall University then had lunch at Cora's, a fantastic Canadian (eastern only!) breakfast and lunch chain restaurant.  My friend, Lois and I enjoyed more shopping after lunch.  I even bought a few Christmas gifts.

When Lois and I arrived in Moncton we got a bit lost trying to find a store and I noticed a clicking noise on the front tire as we drove out a parking lot.  I pulled over and discovered the head of a half inch bolt sticking out of the centre of the front passenger tire!!  Oh dear.  What to do.  I called Murray and he suggested we go to Canadian Tire to see if they could repair it and if not, replace the damaged tire with the full sized spare one.  Sigh.  I was so shook up and disappointed we'd miss our time to shop.

On Thanksgiving Sunday our choir sang a piece about giving thanks to God in all things and this song had been going through my head all week long.  Even while I was driving down the street.  And I realized that this was one of those times that I needed to thank God for this small 'bump in the road' on our trip and also to be thankful that we didn't have a serious incident while travelling at 110 Kilometres per hour on the highway!  God is so good.

Off we went to Canadian Tire down the street but they were very busy and couldn't fit me in so suggested OK Tire further down the street.  I drove so slowly as I was afraid the tire would go flat or burst.  Thankfully they could fit me in and they were able to repair the tire for only $27.00!  My first shopping expense.  Yippee!!  This all put us out by an hour and a half of precious missed shopping time mind you!  But we got out of there and shopped for a while before we went to our friends house.  We got lost trying to find her house too and had to ask directions, twice!  I don't know my way around my home town any more!

All in all it was a great time and I got home shortly after 7:00 pm on Saturday.  I didn't want to be driving in the dark so that was a blessing too.  I have so much to be thankful for!

Here is a photo of our group while at Crandall University.

I hope you had a great weekend too.  Thanks for visiting.  Have a great day!

                                                      Blessings,

                                                       Pamela

  1. Oh dear Pam, that's scary stuff! You were lucky the tire didn't go when you were on the highway, someone was watching out for you. And a $27 bill from the garage, someone else was watching out for you!! I would replace the entire tire, you never know if that nail did any other damage to that tire. Lovely pictures my friend and I'm glad you all had an enjoyable time! Diane

  2. It sounds like "Pam's Excellent Adventure"... : ) ... more like "Pam's Excellent Flat Tire Adventure". Oh, but you are so right about counting your blessings. So sorry that happened to you...these things come along when we least expect them but I think they are all lessons for us and good ones to teach us that with faith things still turn out fine except just not as we expected them to. Glad you're back home and your drive brought you safely back. Hugs

  4. Nice mosaics of your flowers. They look quite robust. Glad your tire got taken care of without too much of a hassle. I remember you posting about this weekend other years! So nice to have a group of friends that continue to meet though separated by miles.

  5. You do not like missing shopping time! I do not like bolts in tires either, but I might've been secretly glad to miss shopping time. Cute picture of you and your friends on the stairs. It's a blessing to have such special friends.

  6. Whew! Indeed a blessing to discover the tire situation when and where you did! Thanking God time!
I am impressed with your flowers. My cosmos are set to bloom. I feel like explaining to them that they'd do better showing up in July. Maybe I have the ice variety; they grew fastest after two snowfalls!

  7. Your flowers are still looking terrific! I don't have anything blooming and we are expecting our first hard freeze tonight.
Luckily your found the tire problem when you were in a town that had a couple of tire shops.
So glad you had a good time with your Bible school friends! It's a cute picture of you.
    Have a wonderful week!

  8. Hi Pamela, What a loving group of flowers and they are still blooming! I am so sad because Jim and I pulled all of ours out a few weeks ago. I had no idea that we were going to have such lovely flower weather still at this date! Yours are absolutely beautiful...just as pretty and bright as last summer. I know you are enjoying them because I know you love your flowers.

What a lovely group of women from your Bible school days. It must be very exciting to meet them every so often. I'm glad you had a safe trip and the tire problems worked out.

Hope your week is a beauty!

    Blessed be,
    Susannah

Sorry to hear about your tyre problem, don't these things happen at the most inconvenient times? It sounds like you managed to enjoy yourself all the same.

So glad you had a great weekend with your classmates - too bad about the tire. But it didn't take too long and you still had time (and money!) to shop.

  22. You still have such a nice mix of flowers blooming!

I hate driving.period. So I would be totally freaking out having to drive with something stuck in a tire. So glad they were able to fix it.

  24. Glad you had a fun time with 'old' girlfriends...and managed to get past the wrecked tire incident. There's always a bright side, isn't there...and you know how to find it!

Did you know that there are a few Cora's on the west coast now? We enjoyed brunch at the one in Port Coquitlam last year.

  26. Your flowers look as beautiful as if it was still summer, Pamela! We've had a couple of nights of frost, so all my flowers died except for my mums.

I'm glad you did not get a tire blow out and that you were able to get the tire fixed without waiting too long. It sounds like you had a fun shopping weekend with your Bible school friends!

  27. I'm amazed at the amount of blooms your garden is still putting out. I've had I think 3 frosty mornings waking up and even my Hosta are a deep yellow, lol.

Glad you noticed your tire and got it fixed, 1 1/2 hours out of shopping isn't too long to miss. wonderful group photo.

  29. Sounds like you had a great weekend and you're right- lucky the tire thing happened when and where it did, rather than on the highway at full speed. Could have been much worse. Your flowers are lovely, you're lucky to still have them. I have very little left in bloom.

  30. I've had that happen too, and it was right after getting off an interstate, about a block from my office. It was a big, old bolt! I parked my car and then called AAA road service to change the tire while it was parked. And then I later got the tired fixed. Whew, you have to be grateful that you didn't have a blowout!

  31. I am happy that you figured it all out before something serious. I had the tire rod break when I was on the highway with our children in the car. It was frightening.
    Happy it all worked out.

  33. Sometimes its the bumps in the road that make us more fully appreciate when things are going along smoothly. I glad that, overall, you had a fun weekend with your friends.

I hope you're enjoying your week.
