the week that was

A recent sunrise.

Well, here it is Friday again.  This month sure is flying by.   I've had a busy week of blogging having joined 4 link parties and I had a great time visiting the other participants.

Thank You for all of your visits and very kind comments on my recent posts with these parties.

 a pretty sunset

We've had some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets recently.

Last Saturday we had a freezing rain for hours that coated everything.  The roads were pure ice and the police were warning people to stay home or stay where they were as it was just too dangerous.  There were cars off the roads everywhere.

the bird feeder with icy drips

Our icy driveway on Saturday during the freezing rain.
There were actually people skating on the streets and roads - just for fun.

It rained all that night and we woke to a bare driveway on Sunday morning.

It's melted even more since this photo.

The nice temperatures stayed with us all week.  It was a very nice break from the very cold temperatures earlier this month and from all the snowstorms of December.  A good old January thaw.

The sun shone on the frozen icy crust of the snow.
Things in the landscape are showing again that haven't been for a few weeks.  The rain, fog and sun have melted down the snow by 2 feet in some places.

The deer are showing up again.  These two were crossing the road and heading down the hill to 'greener' pastures I guess.  I counted eight on the hill yesterday where the snow has melted a lot and the stubbly field grass provides them something to eat.

This morning is foggy again.  And damp.  The kind of damp that goes right into your bones and chills you inside.  I'm staying in today as I've been to town the last 2 days.

I had my eyes tested on Wednesday and passed with flying colours.  {no diseases showing}  Just a bit of tweaking in my prescription.  I decided it was time for new frames as mine are 3 years old.  I'm going big and bold.  Ha ha.   Piano man said I look like a lawyer.   I guess I'll have to change my profile picture soon.

I'd like to welcome my new followers this week.  Thank you for joining me and for your kind comments.
I hope you all have had a great week and enjoy the weekend.

Blessings,

Pamela

  1. Gorgeous!! Your sunrise & sunsets are breathtaking ...it is hard to believe some of them are on the coldest days during the Winter! I have new glasses too and just mentioned to my Husband last evening that I need to update my photo as well. If only you could take my picture and I would take yours...that would be fun! Have a great weekend like you mentioned...January is halfway over ;0)

  3. Beautiful sunrise and sunsets, Pam. I love the sun shining on the crusty snow. We have had a little rain and the snow is crusty too. But we haven't had the thawing. You have had a busy week joining in several linky parties. Enjoy your weekend.

  6. Beautiful sunrises Pam, make you glad to be alive and well, don't they? Good news on your eye exam as it becomes an anxious appointment as we get older. I wore those narrow glasses that were all the rage for the last few years and really disliked them. Last year I went a big bigger which is easier for the 3 levels in my lenses, and I'm bound to go even bigger the next time. I'm happy to hear you've already made the jump. OK, let's see them! ;-)

  8. Your sunsets are beautiful, the ice storm, probably not so much!!! Hope that you have a good weekend and that it is warmer and drier for you. xx

  9. Your sunsets have certainly been beautiful, Pamela. The January thaw certainly changed things around your place, as they have here. But it didn't last long enough to do much compared to yours.
    Have a good weekend!

  10. Pamela such lovely sunsets, oh those colors...we are more then happy to see them on your blog.

No ice here, but fog, and melting....odd to see patches of brown green grass in the middle of winter.

Hey, I am so happy you are in my tribe too!

  16. It looks like you went through a couple of seasons in the course of a week. You picture of the crust of snow reminded my of how fun it was, as a child, to try and walk on top of the crust without breaking through. The things that amused us then!

  17. The sunrises are beautiful! The ice is scary, I'm always worrying about those who are traveling on icy roads and wish they could just stay at home. I'm glad yours thawed out quickly.

  18. Pamela ~ what a blessing to see these beautiful sunrises! I am so glad that you passed with flying colours. Skating on the street sounds like such fun ~ It's o.k. to look like a lawyer ~ I work for three of them. They look pretty good~!

  19. Beautiful sky shots! The colors are so nice! I hate freezing rain! We seem to live in a freezing rain belt, too. I'll take snow all day long.

  20. Saved the best for last. Snow coming tomorrow with another cold snap coming in next week. This past week had my grandson thinking spring had arrived. I assured him that we have some winter left. He said, "How can you know that?! " That kid makes me laugh. Good to see the deer are out and about again.

  21. Hi Pamela. It's been a while since I took time to comment. I'm loving your pictures as usual. Beautiful winter weather :) I know to some it's not all that grand, but I do love it.

  23. Georgia usually has ice storms in Feb/Mar. Your photos are so very pretty. The newer style glasses are very attractive. Hope you will enjoy yours. Have a nice weekend. Mildred

  24. You have such gorgeous sunsets out there! We don't see much of the setting sun because of the cedars. I love the shots of the icy coating on the snowy fields. Just beautiful.

  25. Such intense colours in your sunset photos. Really beautiful. From ice storm to thaw in a week. Weather is certainly changeable.

  26. Very lovely sunsets, Pamela. I'm glad the ice storm didn't cause a lot of damage to trees and power wires. I don't think I have ever seen anyone skating on streets. That does sound like fun!

  27. Love these latest photos of yours, particularly the sunset one (simplicity at its best!) and the crusty ice on the snow.

  28. We're down to the bare ground here, wet, muddy and dreary... but the sun is shining for a bit today :)
With a snow storm scheduled for this evening... gotta love the Maritime provinces!
Beautiful sunsets, but my favourite is the icy drips on the birdhouse.

  29. I am always amazed by the amount of deer you see. Obviously there is no shortage of deer in New Brunswick. We still have the skating rink conditions but today has turned into a lovely day with blue skies and plus 0 temperatures. Yippee.

  32. The sunrise and sunset photos are beautiful Pamela! Those icy roads are so dangerous. Really did a number on your driveway! We had a January thaw the last couple of days and it felt a bit like Spring. Lovin it, of course! Hubby took the lights out of the trees and I wound them up and put them away for another year. Kind of a good feeling to get that done. You'll be one good lookin lawyer in those new specs. lol!
    hugs,
    Jann

  33. You are so talented as a photographer to capyure 'the week that was' all in those amazing photographs! I can only see and enjoy Winter by looking at your potos which bring me such memories of my childhood and dad driving in those icy roads in NY. Thank you for visiting me.

  34. That is quite an amazing scenery of sun hitting down on the ice frozen field. I've seen deer also, you think these were heading to green grass to eat, probably. Did you get your decorations down, lol. I took a walk in the woods today it was amazing and quiet, just quiet and more quiet so I sat down and added some zen to life. Hard to believe they were skating, you guys got a lot of ice.
