signs of spring and selfies

Thank you all so much for your kind words of encouragement in my last post.  You are wonderful friends and I appreciate you so much.  I did get out this morning and found many signs of spring in our yard.  The birds were singing and chirping and the sun is shining after a day of rain.

Just look what I found!  The crocus were up this morning and about to bloom!  This is along the foundation wall at the south end of the house and they were under over 2 feet of snow on Saturday.  The sun, warm temperatures and rain melted the snow away to reveal their beauty.

And the daffodils, which had been up in January's thaw, are poking through and survived.

But....step back and this is what you'll see.  Still LOTS of snow.

There is a small patch of grass showing and it even has green in it.

I did say it was a small patch of grass didn't I?

As I was gingerly walking in the snow afraid that I'd sink, I did just that.  In one spot it was mid thigh and I thought I was going to fall over.  That would make a cute picture wouldn't it?  I'd be stuck there in that water saturated wet snow trying to hold my camera up and laying at an awkward angle.  I can just see it now!  lol   The snow is so soft in some spots that you do sink and then the next step is quite firm.

This next two photos are a comparison from Monday to today.

Murray shovelled out the paths a bit yesterday so the water can flow.  He also removed my Christmas wreath from the shed door!  Can you see a bit of difference in the snow depth?  I can.

We are thankful we didn't get as much rain as predicted yesterday but parts of the province did get a lot and there are flood and ice jam concerns on a few rivers.   Some roads were flooded and washed out too.

Have you ever taken a selfie?  You may (or may not) have noticed I have a new profile picture.  I've been wanting to change it for a few months now since I got new glasses in January.  I had fun a challenging time trying to get a decent photo so I went on line...yes you can learn all about how to take a selfie there....and got some tips....like standing in front of a bright window....and took a few dozen pictures.  We are our worst critics aren't we?   I showed a couple of the photos to Murray and he liked this one saying it looked most like me with a smile on my face.  I do smile a lot.  :-)

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a beautiful day.

                                                    Blessings.
                                                         Pam

  1. You will really celebrate when that snow is gone! Good job with the selfie! Amazing what we can find online. Yesterday I could not find the artichokes at WM so I googled "Where are the artichokes shelved at WM?" and sure enough the answer came up. :-)

  2. Hi Pamela,

Kudos on your cute selfie! Smiles are contagious, I hear.

You Maritimers have certainly had your share of snow and rain and storms of both, but spring is on the way, as your photos show, and when it arrives, it is YOU who will be greeted with flowers!

    Have a lovely day!

  6. Our pond is finally free of ice so I guess spring is actually here. Still haven't seen anything much green yet, but no snow is good. I hope the warm weather reaches you soon and your snow melts. Nice selfie, btw. I don't much like doing them personally.

  10. Hooray for crocus that bloom even when there's snow! Such encouraging plants. You are right, there's still a lot of snow to melt. But it's going, going, going.
We ARE our worst critics when it comes to selfies. Yours is great.

  12. Hi Pam. I did notice your new picture right away. You look so pretty. I am going to check out how to do that. I will admit that my pic is a couple of years old so if I am going to be honest here, it is time!! But if you keep seeing the same old one it means it didn't work. These golden years are not always flattering..!! Looks a LITTLE like some snow is melting!! Happy Wednesday..Judy

  13. Love your new pic! Maybe it's time I did a new one too...hmmmm. Glad you are seeing some grass - none visible here yet. I can't believe you have crocuses too! Now I'm envious... I'm SO tired of looking at white. And now its dirty white - even worse!

  14. ........besides your beautiful smile methinks you have a new, shorter haircut! You look fantastic Pamela.

Well I already spy less snow and the flowers are peeking through at last. I'm happy for you.
We have so much going on in the garden I already feel guilty if I don't get out there daily now to keep up with it all!

Happy remainder of the week dear - sending sunshine and warmth your way.
    Love, Mary

  17. Your photos resemble our yard too...I would say almost identical...just a few patches of grass coming through but it's been a beautiful, warm, sunny day so it won't be long Pamela. Your selfie is AWESOME...you did a great job...I gave up on a profile photo....they never come out right....could be the wayyyyyy too many wrinkles on the face so I put flowers instead. :) Have a nice afternoon...Hugs, Kathy

  33. Love your new photo! I took the one on my blog while facing a mirror. I would be having a very hard time right now in your neighborhood if I lived there. But I was born a desert dweller. I do envy your green though. It should be so incredibly lush again before too long.

  36. I'm commiserating with you from over here! I saw some pretty snowflakes falling - and thought that would make a good picture - but then I thought who wants to see it this time of year??? I even though I'd take it and post it next Dec when everyone wants to look at pretty snow! lol! but I didn't because I'm pretty sick of it myself.

Glad for the little signs of spring - I'm going to go out and check for crocuses!

  40. I am so glad to see that you have some respite from the snowy weather and that the bulbs and grass are making an appearance again. As for selfies, I took part in the 'no make up' selfie on Facebook for Cancer Research - that was terrifying! I love your new profile picture, it is stunning. Have a wonderful weekend. xx

  42. First - nice selfie! That might spur me to get on the other side of the lens and update my (4 year old) mug shot ;>)

Oh, but that snow ... can't say I've missed it all that much, and I hope it's gone around our place by the time we return in little over a week :(

Those crocuses sure look cheerful ... spring can't be far behind (can it ??).

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Pamela.

  43. Yep, spring is on the way in your neck of the woods! I don't like to take selfies. Never satisfied with my stupid expressions. Yours look nice! I do secretly wonder about folks who take lots and lots of selfies. You know the type, LOL!
