the weekend

Hubby bought me this gorgeous bouquet of deep pink roses for Mother's Day.  A first!!

I hope all of you mother's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day.

We had our very first mostly sunny and warm Sunday since last September I think.  It was a lovely day after months of having cold, wet and/or snowy Sundays.  Mind you, Saturday was a cool rainy day.  We can't have two nice ones in a row on the weekend now, can we?!  :}

As you can see there aren't any leaves on the trees yet.  But the buds are swollen and you can see a light green on some trees and shrubs.  The willows are really pretty right now in their new soft green leaves.

We were at our son's for a lovely afternoon for Mother's Day where the above photos were taken.  He barbecued buffalo burgers and his fiancé made 3 beautiful and delicious salads, and drumstick squares for dessert.   Our daughter called me while we were there so it was wonderful to spend this time with my beautiful children in person and on the phone on this special day.

The other day these two ducks wandered through the backyard.  Does anyone know what they are?  I'm guessing they're females as they aren't very colourful although the one on the left looks prettier than the other.   There is a pond nearby so I think they were just out for a stroll.  :}

It's a cold (+2C when I got up) morning here and a bit drizzly.  I heard there might be flurries in the northeast of the province.   It's to warm up and be more sunshine throughout  the week though.   I have hung my hummingbird feeder out and am awaiting their arrival.  Last year it was on the 16th.

I hope you have a wonderful day and a blessed week ahead.  Thank you for your visits and comments.

Pamela

    The trees look the same here as there at your place.

  9. The roses are gorgeous! A first? Well, better late than never as they say. LOL! That Murray! John gave me a carnation and a box of chocolates, which I need like another ten pounds. Oh well! Glad that you had a fun Mother's Day picnic and BBQ. It was a beautiful day here yesterday (and today).

  11. Beautiful roses, and I'll echo Vee's better late than never. Spending time with your children on this special day (both real time and virtually) is what mother's day is all about.
    Soon those trees will be wearing delicate green!

  12. Now that is a nice and pretty surprise from your hubby.
    How nice for your son and his fiancée to prepare dinner for you on your special day. It sounds delicious, but I am curious about those drumstick bars.
    Sounds like spring is slowly springing. Hooray!

  16. It sounds like a lovely day indeed. I can really see the difference in the landscape since the snow went, the grass has really greened up hasn't it. I hope that leaves come for you very soon - followed by masses of flowers and hummingbirds! xx

  20. Beautiful roses, Pamela!

    We had over a foot of snow beginning Mother's Day, but thankfully it did not stick on the roads or cement, but stayed mainly on the trees and grass. We are supposed to get to the 70's by Wednesday so it will hopefully melt quickly. My husband rushed to fertilize and seed the grass, so all this moisture should be wonderful for that! I'm just happy I did nopt plant any flowers as yet. I'll probably wait a while longer :)

  27. What a lkovely mothers day you had. It is so nice to spend it with family. Spring is waiting long in your place. We had some nice weather in March and April but it is a lot colder now. Have the heating on in the morning and evening.

  29. I am like you Pamela, I am grabbing every bit of sunshine I can. It would be nice to know that it is going to stay though. We turned around and had rain and cooler temperatures following our sunshine too.....I was so wishing it would stay. It is going to be a slow start for us I believe.

  30. Your Mothers Day sounds wonderful. I hope your weather warms up. Sunshine and heavy showers here still. The garden is doing well, my hair is not!

  31. The first hint of green on the trees should have a proper term. I tend to say the first blush of green on the trees but that isn't quite right. I think it looks like green confetti as the bare branches with just tiny bounce in the spring breezes. And isn't it amazing how fast trees leaf out? Each morning I can almost hear a sigh as the leaves unfurl more and more.

  34. Wow, hubby did a pretty good job of it considering it was his first time. I think a precedent has been set ;>)

    Yes, nice to see some sun and the early signs of spring. I actually got a bit of a sunburn yesterday but this evening we have the wood stove on to ward off the chill. Oh well, soon it will be time to complain about the heat of summer.

    Have a great week Pamela.

  36. Hi Pam,
    I think these are female black ducks, although I've only had one cup of coffee so far. My trees are looking barren as well, I see a few buds but that is all. Everything is coming along though.
