welcoming a new season

So here it is....autumn has arrived.
Summer was pretty awesome for the latter half of it...in fact, it was pretty amazing with gorgeous weather where we live in eastern Canada.

Now it is fall and the weather is still pretty decent but, this isn't my favourite season.  Once the leaves have dropped and the weather gets colder and the days so very short with their lack of sun I get a bit melancholy.  I will try to keep my spirits up though and
I plan to enjoy these next few weeks of golden light on the changing trees, the lengthening shadows, and the beauty of the colours of autumn.  I hope to get apple picking, walking in the corn maze, maybe have a picnic, enjoy a bonfire, and go for some walks or hikes.  I'll drink more tea, bake ginger/molasses cookies, make stew and other comfort foods....and I'll probably gain back the weight I lost the past few weeks!  Gotta keep active!

What are your favourite things to do in the fall?  Do you get a bit melancholy with the lack of light or do you enjoy being cozy in your home?  I love the outdoors and the heat so it will be an adjustment to the colder days and nights.  I don't like having to wear extra layers of clothes, jackets, scarves, sweaters, shoes and socks etc. but that will start too.  Oh how I love summer!  It's so much simpler!  :-)

For all of you who really love fall and the cooler weather - enjoy!
The rest of us will do the best we can to enjoy it too.

Have a great rest of the week and Happy Fall to you!

Blessings,
Pam

  1. I love the crisp autumn mornings, with the mist laying low, chunky warm sweaters with boots and jeans, all the gorgeous colours splashed across the fields and forests. After the colour display are over, its' time to head inside to curl up by the fire with a throw, tea and a book. There is also the first snow in autumn, the magical first snow :O). Hope you enjoy your autumn activities Pamela.

  2. I'm one of those fall-lovinig people. Comfort food, layered clothing, a return to routine.

Thanks for visiting. It's nice to know I was missed.

  4. Good advice for a fun Fall, Pamela!
I like all of the seasons, but I am definitely finding the Winters
    are lasting way too long.

  5. Hi Pam, I do love fall, for all the fun things you mentioned, but I definitely feel melancholy at this time of year thinking of the approaching winter. Summer always goes by so fast and I never get everything I want done on my 'to do and see' list! I get cabin fever when I am stuck indoors due to bad weather, but I am going to try and keep busy. I have a reading list a mile long and my crochet hook has been getting rusty.....Hope these golden days of fall will lift both of our spirits! Hugs xo Karen

  6. Hello Pam, I do love autumn/fall so much! We went out last night to capture the last rays of summer and to welcome Autumn (my favourite season). Now I wait for the real festival of colour that changes every day on the trees and produce. I'm a happy bunny right now! Enjoy the pumpkin soup, apple pies and bramble muffins - lots of lovely things at this time of year xx

  8. Lovely photo and message . I like late spring , summer of course and fall , however not much of a fan of winter and the really cold days . I enjoy fall for it's fresh cool air and colours on the trees , warm cozy fires either in or out . I love the comfort foods of pies , home made soups , stews and chili made in the slow cooker and lots of tea and hot chocolate . I love the outdoors to walking and hiking , I even try to get out for a bit in the winters as I go stir crazy if I dont lol . Thanks for sharing , Happy Fall/Autumn to you .

  10. I am the opposite . . . I thrive on fall, colors, cooler, cuddly winter days . . .
Melancholy hits me more in the spring . . .
    We are all different aren't we . . .
(I will try and remember to bring you some cheer during the days ahead!)

  11. Pam, not so bad since we moved to Texas. The shorter days and cold weather gave me a feeling of claustrophobia when I lived in the Midwest, especially in January and February. Fall was just an interlude to that time. Even though it still gets dark early, we still have warm weather for most of the year.

  12. Fall is probably my favorite season, with spring as a close second. Even though temps are down at the moment, it is not surprising at all to still see high 80's sometimes into October. Our spring season is usually pretty short, getting really hot early on before summer officially arrives. I look forward to many of the same things you do in the fall, I guess there's just more time to enjoy it before winter...looking forward to SOUP weather!!

  13. It is my favorite season, but you have made me realize that it is probably only my favorite season for September and October. November is in the top five of least favorite months. Yup, you're right, it can get pretty bleak. I do love the glory of the light and color. I despise that people foul October with their tacky decorations. Oops. Going too far. Must pull back and behave myself. Have a happy autumn. We can't always have the glory days outside, yet we can have wonderful days inside!

  14. Pam, I do love winter because we still enjoy winter sports. However, winter here at altitude sometimes overstays its welcome. We're already using our fireplaces - it's getting cooler by the day. Yes, let's keep active - and enjoy those fall colors.

  15. I love the fall, not least of which is because it leads into winter!

  16. We are so thrilled the cooler weather seems to have arrived. There's a lovely gentle breeze and a good deal of cloud cover--it's just energizing after our extremely hot, humid, but almost rainless summer. Maybe it's us southerners that love fall so much as it's such a welcome change.

  17. I'm just too excited to see fall is finally here! I know some really love summer, but it is at the bottom of my list with winter a close second!

  18. Pam, I just feel good in the fall. I guess it is because I'm not too partial to the heat as I get older, but I try not to think ahead to old man winter. He gets pretty old after awhile. And I love orange!! I guess that's my excuse..Happy First Day to you..Judy

  20. Happy autumn to you!!! I hope that you have a good time and can enjoy the snuggling in! I in a way too that it lasts a long time for you so that you have a short winter! xx

  21. I can't make it through Autumn without a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to photograph the beautiful Fall color. Carol

  22. I absolutely love this time of year -- almost everything about it. It's the summer that taxes me. We are all different in that regard, I guess. I think I might just mosey out to the local orchard and see what kinds of apples are ready now.

  23. We had such a nice summer that it's hard to say goodbye isn't it. I love autumn but I find Nov rather challenging. As long as the sun shines I'm good. Day after day of rain gets to me - I'd rather snow!

  24. I do love fall and feel very energized during this season. But I love summer, too, for different reasons. Winter and spring I can take or leave (well, I guess I take them, but they are not favorites). I love the renewed focus on home and always feel like cooking more once fall comes. This year the cooking hasn't happened much as I get used to teaching again, but it will come. I hope you find delight in the pleasures of autumn - you have a good list to start from there.

  25. And happy fall to you! I am enjoying the pleasures of autumn...though I too am a lover of hot days and summertime! But fall is growing on me.

  26. September and October are beautiful months but November is often dreary here. This year I hope to learn how to take photos in low light, lol. If I can do that perhaps my attitude will improve. ;)

  27. Pam, I was going to tease you and say is winter your favorite season, but I thought that wouldn't be nice. I love Autumn, it's up there with Spring, and Winter...and Summer. But I understand how you feel because your winters are brutal.

Hopefully you will have a lovely extended Autumn to make up for the nasty winters you have suffered through.

  28. I love autumn, it is my favorite season. It's still plenty warm here and I'm ready for cooler weather. But I do wish we could just skip over winter. lol! Happy Fall to you and have a nice weekend!

  29. Oh we're kindred spirits Pamela LOL - I'm not big on Fall either - it represents an ending in my mind - maybe you have to live in a 4 season climate to get that it's just too close to winter ! It still looks like summer here in Montreal but I know it's coming................
