a farmhouse style table vignette

Farmhouse style decorating seems to be quite popular in blog land right now and I love it.  Even though I don't live in a farmhouse I do live in the country and I love the vintage things that make up this style of decorating.  I guess my style would be considered a bit traditional with a country cottage feel.

I have seen 2 other vignettes similar to mine in the past few days.
Although I made mine on Sunday afternoon it is uncanny how similar it is to Pat's at Back Porch Musings.  Check it out.

I started with a vintage wood and wicker tray on top of a vintage tea towel.  I added the white ironstone bowl of faux eggs (from Cracker Barrel), an aqua striped hand towel, ironstone mug with old silverware, an old butter dish with a cow on top, my great-aunt Beth's salt and pepper shakers with a worn "D" on them and my favourite ironstone pitcher.  I didn't have any real flowers this week so these are faux tulips.  They look pretty good don't they?

Do you like the farmhouse style?
I do.
When you have old things it's good to put them to use.

Freezing rain changing to rain and mild temperatures today and rain and 10C (50F) tomorrow.  Then back into the deep freeze!

Have a great day!

Blessings,

Pamela

  2. Very nice! I love the little cow :) My home is very modern, but I grew up around both of my grandmother's who lived on big farms. My kitchen does have a country/primitive feel to it tho...I just think a country kitchen suits our family especially with our heritage. Have a great day!

  8. That is a pretty vingnette.
The temperature is +10 Celsius this afternoon and it actually feels warm when you step outside. It poured this morning, the sun came out a bit (a very brief bit) and the rain is coming back. Ah-h-h the weather, it's what Canadians talk about in winter.

  9. Love farmhouse style. Is happens to me all the time and I find myself wondering if people will think I blatantly copied. When I do, I say so. Ha!

  10. i'm curious - in your description of your tea layout there did you say what the "cow box" was? from the looks of it - something to do with butter? but do you need butter for tea? ...guess it reminds me of one my grandma had. but no cow there on top of the butter container. no rain here as of yet... but it sure does look like it is ready to pour. thanks for sharing. 12. Hi Pamela
Yes, I definitely like farmhouse style decor which is what I did when we first moved to this house. The interior decorator that has done the window coverings at all our homes asked me when I was going to get rid of it. :-( I did keep a few things and should dig them out for a vignette.
I like the butter dish, I see Pat had a round one - great minds think alike! Faux eggs, they're so real looking and would be fun to have out on the cupboard. Cracker Barrel needs to come north of the border, I love shopping in their store area.

  13. When we downsized I had to pick one set of dishes and pass the rest on to my girls. I chose the white ironstone and use teapots or pitchers for centerpieces depending on the theme I need for the meal. Yes, yours is very pretty and so my style too. Two of my magazine subscriptions came in last week (I need an afternoon and a pot of tea); one was Country Living and the other was Traditional Home. Disparate tastes make for my eclectic taste. I’m right in there with you, Pamela.

  23. I can't believe how up and down your weather is. I do not like rain in the winter time, they destroy good roads, but at 10 deg. I suppose the roads aren't freezing.
Your little vignette is really pretty and it's uncanny how much it is like Pats, really pretty!

  26. Yes, I'm all about old things also. Love the salt and pepper shaker (missing D) I like your country farm style. I was at an antique shop yesterday and found a fantastic find, a rotating cookie cutter, would be a nice touch.
