walking the dogs

On Sunday afternoon we went for a walk and enjoyed the lovely sunshine with no wind.
After church we had a yummy brunch with Mark and Jenn at our house and birthday cupcakes for Murray then went to our son's and got the dogs and headed out.

We walked up through the old orchard that used to be part of the family farm.  It was beautiful and sunny and the dogs had a grand time.  Buckley and Ellie, the black labs (not purebreds), made an exciting escape chasing a deer for a while as we called and whistled for them to return.  After about 20 minutes Buck came back then Ellie.  Naughty dogs!  Marshall is very blind so he stays on leash but I think the other two will be on leash the next time.

The trail was good as Mark and Jenn have been snowmobiling through here all winter.  The old orchard is in bad shape and would need a hard pruning to bring the trees back to producing apples.

It was so pretty and quiet back in the woods.  It's hard to believe how the fields on the left of this lane have grown up in birch trees etc. over the years.

Murray and I with Marshall.

Jenn and Mark with Ellie and Buckley.

We then headed out the power line.

Mark found a caterpillar of some kind on the snow.  I wonder where he came from and where he was headed?
Can spring be on the way??

Heading back home.

It was great to get out on such a nice afternoon.  The walking was pretty easy even on the softening snow but we didn't sink down.  I guess the snowmobiles packed it pretty good.  There is anywhere from one to two feet of snow on the trails.

It's calling for rain tonight and tomorrow and after 3 days of mild weather and part sunshine our snow will melt down a lot.
It is supposed to turn colder on Friday though and there may be snow on the weekend.  Oh well, it won't last long.

How's your week going?

Blessings,

Pamela

  11. What a great afternoon walk for you and your family. It is so good to get out and breathe in the fresh air! Just makes us feel so much better. It was in the low 60's over the weekend here in western NY...that was a surprise...tonight it is 34. Today seemed so dreary. That is what gets me..... the clouds and darkness. But it won't last for long and we will have wonderful spring with rain to clean the earth and make everything smell so fresh and delightful.Looking forward to it. Great pictures of the weather, sights and your family, Pamela.

  13. Pam what a wonderful time you all had - especially those two naughty black labs!!..
Great for everyone to get some fresh air as I imagine one could quite easily get cabin fever staying inside all the time.
Great photos and lovely to see you too!

  14. That's a gorgeous place to walk! It's nice when there's snow, but it's not too deep. It makes the scenery beautiful for photos. Glad the dogs came back after their deer run!

  15. What a lovely fresh walk and such gorgeous surroundings. My little dog would have got completely lost in the snow and I'd still be looking for her! Maybe the caterpillar is trying to tell you something! Take care. Chel x

  18. I couldn't help but smile at the colors of the dogs compared to their people's hair color and the people's jackets! Quite a match! The look of your terrain and weather could not be more different than the warm sunshine a budding trees we experienced here yesterday. It was the first real taste of spring and a beautiful day. I know yours will come!

  19. Looks like a great place to walk and let the dogs run. Just imagine how exciting it was for the labs to chase the deer, bet they were tired later on.
With the milder weather and rain yesterday I can see bulbs starting to poke out of the ground.
