barbed wire

Old farms and old junk piles go hand in hand.

And they make for great pictures too.

Now, I'm going to share something which I don't normally do but it seemed to go with the rusty barbed wire in my photos so here goes.

My throat felt like I was swallowing barbed wire yesterday.
I had a gastroscopy in the morning.  That's the test where they insert a narrow tube into your throat and esophagus and down into your stomach and have a look around.  After 3 hours of sleep the night before due to anxiety about this 'little' test, I survived it.
It is the 3rd time I've had this test in the past 8 years.  I sometimes have trouble swallowing dry foods like potatoes, bread etc. and always have to drink sips of water with my meals.  I also have a Niagara Falls of acid in my stomach for which I take medication.   It has been worse the past few months so the doctor and I thought it was time for another scope.

I was thankful that it went well and I woke up right after the test as  when I had the test a few years ago I slept and slept.  I think they gave me too much relaxer or something that time.  I went in this time, with friends (and myself and Murray) praying it would go better than the last time and it did.  The doctor was very good and helpful and listened to my fears.  He took biopsies of some polyps that have been there for years.  Now I'm praying for good results on them.

Yesterday was a clear liquids day.  I drank one glass of apple juice all day.  That's all I could manage as every time I swallowed it felt like I was swallowing a large lump.  I slept for 3 hours in the afternoon.  I remained quiet the rest of the day.  {I may have visited a few blogs.}   Last night I slept from 10:30 until 7:30.
Today my throat is much better.  There's a bit of a lump there but not like yesterday.  I am quite weak.  I usually have cereal and a banana for breakfast.  {and chocolate before noon haha}  I had some yogurt this morning and am drinking another glass of apple juice.  Today is a soft food day.  I have a pot of KD cooking at the moment and will try to eat some.  I'm getting hungry.

It's all ready so I'm going to eat a few spoonfuls and see how it goes.  Cheers!

How is your week going?
Thanks so much for stopping by and for all your comments.

Blessings,

Pamela

  2. I do hope the test shows all is well, although it was more than a bit of a bother to get the test taken at all.
I have no idea what KD is. Kraft Dinner? Why not Mac and Cheese?
    Love the barbed wire shots.

  4. Oh yuck, compared to having a barbed wire throat, what could be worse. Sounds painful if you ask me. I didn't go through that but Grandpa and I seem to be catching every bug these children can bring home from school. I've bee down for 5 days doing very little or nothing. I sure ill pray that all goes well for your tests. THen if they do find something and can correct it you may not have trouble swallowing things like bread and potatoes. I had a half a potato for lunch. I think my mindjust remembered chocolate, you had some before lunch, must have tasted good with apple juice. Take care my friend, I think of you often. That picture was perfect as always.

  5. oh gosh - i thought you were going to say you were sick? with a cold / sore throat. i do not look forward to those tests when i get to the age when you have to start doing them. when my mom tells me she has to take a monogram i think that is terrible - i know it is important. but ouch on the chest area. a big big ouch!! i was listening to the news the other night & a teenager is in the works with a big company on getting testing for pancreatic testing to know if you have that cancer ahead of time. they say when you have that type of cancer & know about it through testing it is pretty much at the end ... you don't tend to make it. so sad. i love mac & cheese. keep us posted on your results. big big hugs. 7. Your barbed wire pictures are so fun! One of the times when I was the sickest in my life, I couldn't swallow...I mean not even my own saliva (sorry to be gross!) so I feel for you!
I sure hope that you're feeling your best soon, and that you get happy results back :)

  9. You poor thing . . . The connection between the barbed wire, (great pictures BTW) and your throat procedure/biopsy made it very vivid. I do hope each day finds you improving and I hope this solves your problem. Did you enjoy the Mac and Cheese?

  11. I had no idea that they made barbed wire in colors!! Excited to see that. Great shots, really lovely texture.

Pamela, I hope that you feel better soon, that's a test that seemed to cause a lot of discomfort. Here's to them finding out what the problem is, and that's it's not too serious.

I am so sorry to hear of what you've been through. It sounds very painful.
I will be praying for good results from the testing.
I know a fair amount about acid reflux as my Sis has had it for years
and I know how uncomfortable it is. She is better now, so I need to ask her what has changed...
    Take care. ((HUGS))
and has even had surgery. I hope your medication

  17. Beautiful textures in your photo. So sorry about your test. I've had that test twice and it is no fun. I have difficulty drinking/tolerating most juices, including apple and orange due to the acidity. Praying your test results will be fine. Feel better soon.

  21. Pamela...so sorry you are having these issues and hoping all of the test come back great. The barbed wire is beautiful and made for a lovely photo shoot! :)

  22. Glad that you are on the mend from that test...that you were even willing to do it in the first place. May all reports come back good ones. I think that being honest with our readers from time to time allows us to be human. We are, after all. Feel better, enjoy the comfort foods...a yogurt smoothie would sound good to me after such an experience, well it sounds good to me without such an experience. An Orange Julius kind of yogurt smoothie...yummo! Lie low, get caught up on your sleep.

  23. I didn't get this post until today which is sometimes odd but who knows how Blogger operates. I pray for good news and that all is better today as you recover. I had that test in October when discovered my gastritis. Such a painful illness. I rake Prilosec 2x daily now and have finally almost gotten back to normal eating, I hope you get better. Prayers.

  25. I missed this post - sorry to hear about your throat troubles. I have sort of similar problems to what you described. Sometimes, it just feels like things don't want to go down when I swallow. I always have water on hand when I'm eating as well. Wishing you the best with your biopsies.

  26. I hope you're feeling better now. I hate going to the doctor for a routine check-up, much less testing of any kind.

Love the barbed wire photos! Very rustic!
