welcome May

Sunrise on the first day of May 2015.

May 1.  It dawned bright and sunny....for an hour....then the clouds rolled in and that raw east wind continued to blow the rest of the day.  The clouds rolled away around 3:00 with a promise of a nice weekend in store.

May 2.  Dawned clear and sunny with a southerly wind and the temperature rose to 17 by 4:00 in the afternoon.  It was a beautiful day.  We celebrated our son's 34th birthday with a barbecue at his place after spending the day outdoors doing yard work.  We were two tired puppies that night I'll tell you....exhausted!

May 3.  Another gorgeous sunny warm day.  It was 20 for the high and there was just a wisp of a breeze.   It was so calm and still and perfect.  It's hard to believe that after all the snow we had this winter that there is a fire ban on in the whole province.

May is...

new life
birds singing and flitting about, mating and nest building,
bees buzzing by looking for illusive nectar.
people walking, biking, running....just enjoying the outdoors....
grateful that another season is beginning.
the smell of barbecuing in the air and soon,
the smell of newly mown grass.
children playing outside, squealing with delight
motorcycles and cars touring the back roads enjoying the scenery.
trees budding, grass greening,
daffodils blooming, plants pushing through the soil,
farmers getting into the fields to plow and plant.
peepers and frogs singing a spring chorus in the ponds at night
a full flower moon lighting up the landscape.
the warming sun as it wakes the earth and it's inhabitants.
May is the month of newness that we will savour
and be ever so grateful for the pleasures that it brings.

Canada geese and Mergansers on the flooded fields Sunday morning.

A bit of squabbling going on here.

I bought a new lilac (Lilas Minuet) on Friday and it's budding.  I don't know if it will have blooms this year.

maple tree buds

Our neighbour's Daphne shrubs in full bloom.  These are the earliest bloomers around here.

I put up my hummingbird feeders because I read that some have been spotted in New Brunswick already.   Has anyone seen any yet?

This flower bed is really bursting.

We got to enjoy our deck on the weekend and are looking forward to 5 months of use this year.
If you are new to my blog see our new deck build from last June with before and after photos.

May 4.  The temperature is to be about 24 C with warm beautiful sunshine.   We've been waiting for 8 months for this and we are happy!

Happy May to you all.  Thank you for stopping by.

Enjoy your blessings!
Pamela

  6. How delightful for you that spring is finally settling in. Our temperatures don't vary as much as yours do (by far) and I do miss the warmer summers. You will soon surpass us. I hope you get to enjoy your deck a lot this summer.

  9. How wonderful you can sit and enjoy the deck once again in the glorious weather. It is clouding over today and there is a 60% chance of rain this evening. To be honest, we really need the rain. We are off to look after the grandkids this evening while their parents go to a couple of meetings. I'm sure we will have fun, rain or no rain.

  23. It's so nice to be back out on our decks, hubby power washed and rolled an oil based stain on ours to spruce it up.
Yesterday I put out my hummingbird and oriole feeders and didn't I wake up this morning to the beautiful bird song of an oriole! Birds and blooms, the things that make the long winter worth while.
    Happy Gardening Pam.

  25. So nice to see your deck as it should be. I am surprised that your daffodils are up so soon after the snow has melted. Our spring is stalled due to the lack of rain . Maybe tomorrow's snow will help.... Congratulations though....I know how special the next 5 months will be!

  26. Lovely post! I know I gush a lot about the lovely weather here in NC but I really have sympathized with so many of you whose winter just wouldn't let up. Finally, you are getting your spring...and I'm so thrilled for you! Your photos are lovely, especially #2...all those lovely reflections.

  27. Nothing like springtime is there . . .
We could use some rainy days here, not like you and your high waters . . .
    Happy Spring Pam . . .

  32. Pamela in regard to the commentPamela, you left on my blog this morning regarding the gaspereau run in my area. I don't think the gaspereau are running yet. I will mention it on my blog when they are running. If you do come out to my area and you would like a guide I would enjoy meeting you and showing you around. The falls are very pretty at this time of year and also there is an art park at the falls location. There are lots of things to photograph around there.
Thank you for your comment. Me Ann My Camera

  33. At this time of year our two coasts switch positions, and you get the sunshine and good weather and we maintain the 15 degrees that were so sweet in March, but seem a little cool in May! It sounds like you've made a very good start to the season with all that work!
Our sons are the same age - mine has a birthday later this month. I'm off to Edmonton again next week and we'll celebrate then.

  39. May used to be my favorite month when I was living in Germany, and when I see your photos I remember exactly why. Now October is my favorite month, but I still love May very much, although May as I knew it is more like March here. We have had a pair of hummingbirds all winter long. They stay here if they are fed - it's really interesting to see how some just stick it out whereas others migrate further south. At the moment we have a lot of hummingbirds in our garden.
Enjoy the warmer weather, your new deck (it's beautiful) and the lovely months lying ahead.
